Homework
It is the policy of the school to give homework to all pupils. Homework is an essential part of the child’s learning process and also serves to involve parents in their child’s learning. Homeworks are recorded in the student’s Journal and parents are expected to check and sign this once per week. Through the introduction of the knowledge organiser Year 8 pupils have a schedule to follow. This is in addition to homework set by subject teachers.
The type of homework set is at the discretion of the teacher and naturally increases in length as the student progresses through the school. The nature and frequency of homework will vary according to the Key Stage and subject. It is not appropriate, therefore, to adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Subject departments should ensure homeworks support the skills and knowledge required for their subject area in accordance with Departmental policy.
In providing homework, teachers are supporting pupils’ learning beyond the classroom and provides the opportunity for parents to be involved in their pupil’s learning and progress. Limavady High School also offers the opportunity for all pupils to avail of our Homework Club which offers assistance and resources. This club happens Monday-Thursday between 3:30pm and 4:30pm in the Study Centre and the Library. Both areas are fully resourced with ICT equipment and has a member of staff present for assistance and support.
